Biography:

Alexandra René is a birth worker and future physician dedicated to providing compassionate, culturally grounded care to underserved communities. Her experience supporting individuals living with HIV has shaped her commitment to advocacy, health education, and walking alongside clients as they navigate complex healthcare systems.

Alexandra is deeply drawn to birth work and the importance of continuous emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. She believes birth is both a clinical and deeply human experience, and she strives to create a space where clients feel safe, respected, and empowered in their choices.

She is especially passionate about advancing equitable maternal care for Black and immigrant families and is committed to honoring each client’s voice, autonomy, and lived experience. Alexandra approaches her work with intention, humility, and a deep respect for the connection between body, community, and healing.

Why did you become a doula?:

I became a doula because I have always been interested childbirth. Moreover, I especially liked how doula work focuses on how to best support the pregnant person leading to better health outcomes for both mama and baby.

What is your personal connection to birth/family/community?:

While I do not have any children of my own yet, I am an aunt and god mother.

What is your philosophy of doula care?:

My philosophy of doula care is deeply client-centered and rooted in empowerment, dignity, and community. I believe that clients are the true experts of their own bodies and experiences, and that they should lead the direction of their care. My role is to provide clear, evidence-based information, compassionate presence, and steady support so that each client feels informed, confident, and fully aware of what is happening throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. I am also a strong believer in the power of community — that children, even before birth, are nurtured within networks of care. Doula support can help families recognize, strengthen, and draw from those networks, honoring collective support as essential components of pregnancy, birth and parenthood in general.

Who is your ideal client?:

As I am just starting I do not necessarily have an "ideal client". I would like to work with any pregnant person who feels like they would benefit from additional support and education doula's can provide.
