Biography:
My name is Delca Castillo and I am the proud mother of a recent college grad who is the first RN in our family. I am also a loving cat mom of 2. I was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in the Bronx, New York, but chose to live most of my life in Methuen, MA. My background is in childcare. I was a preschool teacher for over 15 years and have worked with all ages from birth to adolescence. I believe life is all about making connections as human beings.
Why did you become a doula?
I decided to become a doula because I was looking for new ways to best serve my community. I have been told by many that I am a strong advocate for others and that I am compassionate to everyone, in my care or not.
What is your personal connection to birth/family/community?
I come from a very close knit family, I talk to my parents and siblings every day. Because I feel so blessed to have this connection and support, I want to help others in my community who need it most, especially during a stressful and emotional time in their lives.
What is your philosophy of doula care?
My approach to doula care is a holistic, interactive, and supportive approach. I work to incorporate the family's ideas for what their ideal birth will be for the time of. Bonding with the family and supporting them with a calm mind and without judgement throughout this journey is paramount. I am available to offer emotional support and evidence based care to help build confidence and independence from the prenatal to postpartum period. My goal is that after our time is done, the family as a whole can be more prepared for parenthood.
Who is your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who is cooperative. I am confident in my ability to work with others, as long as they are willing to be guided and want support.
