Biography:
My name is Marjorie Calice, proud mother of 3 born and raised locally in Brockton MA
I come from a Cape Verdean and Haitian family with an extensive cultural background understanding and practice.
I am a double certified medical interpreter fluent in different dialects from the Cape Verdean islands and also have some degree of understanding Portuguese and Haitian creole. I am a certified breastfeeding counselor, lactation consultant and certified postpartum doula.
I became a mom at 16 years old and my journey and challenges has been the origin of my story and the motivation behind wanting to support parents in all walks of life. I've always been amazed and fascinated by all things pregnancy and children related and it has triggered my passion in being a doula and to be for people what I wish I had for all my pregnancies especially with my 1st experience. I am thrilled to offer my services to all and any willing to accept me into their village or for us to start one, whether it is your 1st time or parents of multiples who could use the extra hands. Together we can create a safe and educated environment while empowering one another and carrying it forward!
Why did you become a doula?:
I wanted to be for someone what I wish I had
What is your personal connection to birth/family/community?:
I was the 1st out of everyone around to have a child and became the unofficial spokesperson for everyone to come to with questions looking for guidance
What is your philosophy of doula care?:
Mom is priority, parents always tend to get forgotten about.
Who is your ideal client?:
Someone who knows what they want or even don’t want. Someone who sees something and asks questions and is willing to trying it
