Biography

A believer of Christ; Ms. Martinez has been a child caretaker for 20 years, professionally for over a decade. Within the time frame, she received a substantial amount of time learning in classrooms how to be an educator through a trauma, infancy to childhood to adolescence development, diverse learning styles informed lens. Becoming a doula bridges a gap in Nickie’s personal goals to best serve the community through being a role model to someone her childhood self would follow. Currently spends school days as a paraprofessional in a sub separate classroom designed for 6 students. Fun fact: she is a lover of island life, one bucket list item is to visit all of the Caribbean Islands.

Why did you become a doula?

In caring for the youth, learned of the absorbency of the child mind and fell in passion with becoming someone who makes life lighter for one who holds life. Nurturing people who were created to bring life gives me a new sense of purpose: being supportive to ease the process. Using my experience to pay close attention to details, I can say that in being your doula my senses are alert as best in the moment. Striving to grow, paso a paso (step by step).

What is your personal connection to birth/family/community?

Aside from working in schools and camps, I am a daughter, sister, cousin, niece, and friend. I value close knit relationships I build with my family, linked by genes or proximity.

What is your philosophy of doula care?

Listen to learn, act to advocate, support to the best of my ability.

Who is your ideal client?

Someone who values the foundation of being an encouraging parent, fostering quality of life for the child through better learning about themselves – at whatever capacity the statement resonates with you!
