Biography:

I grew up in the Mattapan/Hyde Park area of Boston. I am excited to be a part of the team of doulas at DoD providing community-based care. In addition to doula work, I currently work in the non-profit sector. I speak Haitian Creole and Spanish.

Why did you become a doula?

I was motivated to become doula due to my interests in addressing the inequities in birth and maternal health outcomes for Black women. Becoming a doula is an opportunity to support black women and other marginalized groups in ensuring they can advocate for themselves to get the care that meet their individual needs. I am fortunate and grateful that I live in a state where there measures being taken to tackle these issues.

What is your personal connection to birth/family/community?

Over the years, I have been an active presence during the prenatal and postpartum stages for many friends and family members. I have tried to support in anyway I can to help alleviate some of the stress they may be experiencing .

What is your philosophy of doula care?

My philosophy on doula care is that I am there to help the birthing person in getting the care take they need, and to support them in creating/having a positive birthing experience they desire. My role is to provide the information so they can make informed decisions, to listen to their concerns, and to support in the decision they reach.

Who is your ideal client?

My ideal client is someone who is open to working with a doula, even if they may not have a complete understanding of the scope/role of doula work. They have to be willing to build the relationship with someone who can become a trusted member of their care team.

As for specific demographics, I am interested in working with immigrant families who may be new to navigating the healthcare system and prefer a doula who speaks Haitian Creole.
