Biography:
My name is Yazienette “Yazi” Alcantara. My journey into this work is deeply rooted in my own life as a mother of two wonderful boys. I believe that motherhood was never meant to be done alone, and neither is birth. My goal is to ensure that every woman I walk beside feels empowered, supported, and heard throughout her unique journey.
Why did you become a doula?:
I became a doula because of my own journey into motherhood. After the birth of one of my two sons, I went through a very difficult season of postpartum depression and anxiety. Going through that taught me firsthand how essential it is for mothers to feel truly supported, seen, and cared for—not just during the birth itself, but in the months that follow.
That experience shaped my passion to walk alongside other women. I realized that birth and motherhood were never meant to be done alone. I chose this path to turn my own healing and learning into a way to empower others, helping mothers approach their birth journeys with confidence, strength, and peace.
What is your personal connection to birth/family/community?:
My personal connection to birth work was forged in the fire of my own experiences. During one of my own birth journeys, I navigated the challenges of postpartum depression. That season of my life was a profound teacher; it showed me exactly how vital it is for mothers to be seen and cared for—not just during the pregnancy and birth itself, but in the critical days and weeks that follow. This experience revealed to me the incredible strength that exists within mothers and the transformative power that a supportive community can have. It is this passion for advocacy and community that drives me to support other women during one of the most important moments of their lives.
What is your philosophy of doula care?:
I view the role of a doula as the protector of the birth experience. My philosophy is built on the distinction between medical care and maternal care: while your medical team focuses on the clinical health of you and your baby, my focus is entirely on you. I provide continuous emotional and physical support through: Encouragement, comfort, and advocacy. I do not deliver babies; I care for the mother, so she has the freedom to focus on bringing her miracle into the world with confidence, peace, and strength.
Who is your ideal client?:
My ideal Client is a woman who may feel vulnerable about the journey ahead, but is deeply committed to a birth experience where she feels protected, supported, and emotionally held from pregnancy through the early days of motherhood.
